7th September - AFC Dunstable 2 Heybridge Swifts 1 (FA Cup replay)

After the disappointment of allowing a 2 goal lead to slip away in Essex on Saturday in the final 8 minutes, we got over this hurdle to progress to the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.

Like Saturday, we held a 2-0 lead entering the final 6 minutes this time and once again Heybridge pulled a goal back and everyone thought the same outcome was going to materialise. It was not to be, as we held on to fight another day in the FA Cup.

Two wonderful goals by BJ Christie was the difference between the two teams. His first was a trademark strike as he outpaced the visitors defence to hit an unstoppable shot on 10 minutes. It should have been 2-0 soon after. Another Christie strike was too hot for the visitors keeper and as Jermaine Hall seemed to have the easiest task of knocking in the rebound, he made up for his spill and deflected Hall's shot onto the upright.

Like Saturday, the game was taking a turn for the worse as old confrontations were renewed. The referee on this occasion was handy with his yellow cards.

The tie seemed settled when Christie pulled an overhead kick out of the top draw. From a cross from Courtney Massay, he seemed to twist his body to make contact with the ball and it made its way into the top of the net.

Heybridge once again came back at AFC and pulled a goal back through a neat strike from George Cole with 6 minutes left on the clock. They pushed for an equaliser but the home defence held firm.

Now onto the 2nd Qualifying Round and a massive tough task awaits. Hampton and Richmond Borough, who currently lie 2nd in the National League South.
