20th February - AFC Dunstable 1 Welwyn Garden City 1

The OD's dropped 2 vital points in their quest for the Premier Division title but AFC Manager Steve Heath thought the draw was a fair result. He said " Welwyn are without doubt a tough proposition and could have sneaked a win near the end of the game as Ricky Perks denied them. The wind did no favours for either side, so the game was not the best"

In the end neither team could score for themselves, as both goals in the game were supplied by the opposition. AFC were forced into a change as Leon Cashman failed a fitness test so Terry Griffiths resumed as centre half. Two other changes from the game at St Margaretsbury were Nathan Frater for Jermaine Hall and Josh Humbert for Danny Jones.

In a game devoid of any decent chances, both teams found it hard to come to terms with the conditions. A Frater strike midway through the 1st half was easily fielded by Freddie Hester in the Welwyn goal. The visitors looked fairly lively up front but did not really test Perks.

The 2nd half was played out in the same vein and the breakthrough came for AFC on 65 minutes. A cross by Frater was fumbled by Hester who seemed to carry the ball over the line. The home teamed claimed a goal and the assistant referee agreed and flagged for a goal.

It was looking like the home side would hold out but it was not to be. A Welwyn break by Luke Robbins saw him get to the bye line and his cross was deflected into his own net by Jason Beck. With 12 minutes remaining AFC went all out for the winner and when Brandon Carney's header crashed against the Citizens bar, it was not going to be their day.

It could have got worse for AFC, as Josh Bronti broke clear and could have won it for Welwyn but Perks saved well with his feet to deny him. In the end both teams had to be happy with sharing the spoils.
