Match Reports;

Sunday 16th September 2007

AFC Dunstable 1 Leighton Town 1
Scorer: Jordan Ratcliffe

This morning match was our first league match of the season and our opponents were Leighton Town.
Leighton Town are a new addition to the Chiltern Youth League but they have been successful in the MK league so we knew we were in for a tough battle.
We welcomed our 2 new signings Luke Reddington and Jake Butler to the squad.

The first half was very even with both defences on top and both looking well organised. AFC had the better of the chances with Liam Brien twice in on goal with the only the goalie to beat but was denied on both occasions by some good goalkeeping and Spencer Park was unlucky not to convert a James Green cross. Jordan Ratcliffe then had what looked like a clear cut penalty decision turned down by the referee when brought down in the box.

Half time 0-0

Leighton Town went ahead shortly after half time after some good build up play on the left resulted in a cross to far post which was headed in.
This set back seemed to spur AFC on and the manager changed things by putting Josh Skelcey up front. His pace caused the Leighton Town defence some problems and we were unlucky not to equalise. AFC's midfied quartlet of Harry Carr, Jake Butler, Adam Gormley and Spencer Park were starting to win more ball and this allowed Jordan Ratcliffe and Josh Skelcey to stretch the Leighton defence. We finally got our equaliser from a long throw from Josh Skelcey which was not cleared by Leighton and Jordan Ratcliffe finished from close range. Both teams then looked for the winner but were denied by some good defending from both teams (AFC defence was Connor Richardson, Kyle Burgess, Luke Bisset and Like Reddington with Spencer Park and Aaron Maher helping out towards the end of the match) Bradley Vine in goal looked confident throughout and his goalkicking was good.

Team, Bradley, Kyle, Luke B, Luke R, Connor, Harry, Spencer, Adam, Jordan, James, Liam.
Subs used, Josh, Jake, Aaron

Next week (Sunday 23rd September 2007) we are away to Dunstable Town B in the 1st round of the county cup.

County Cup 1st Round

Dunstable Town B 1 AFC Dunstable 2
Scorers: Adam Gormley, Jordan Ratcliffe

This morning match saw us up aganist Dunstable Town B in the first round of the county cup. Dunstable Town B are currently top of Division 3 and came into this game full of confidence.

The match started and as expected AFC got on top straight away in terms of possession and territory. Then on there first attack Dunstable Town scored from a long range effort from outside the box. AFC continued to struggle with their normal passing game and as the game went on Dunstable became difficult to break down. Harry Carr went close from long range but his shot rebounded off the cross bar. Adam Gormley then levelled the match with a shot that took a deflection. Shortly afterwards AFC went 2-1 up with a fine shot from outside the box from Jordan Ratcliffe. Spencer Park nearly made it 3-1 with a header but was denied by a good save by their goalkeeper.

Half time 1-2

The second half continued in the same pattern with AFC dominating possession and territory. AFC were still struggling with their passing but looked confortable in defence. Tom Silford had a goal disallowed for off side and Liam Brien, Jake Butler, Harry Carr and James Green all went close.
Just before the final whistle Dunstable Town hit the bar with a long range effort.
Overall a very hard game aganist a team wanting to beat a team from a higher division.

Full Time 1-2

Barnfield Colts A 2 AFC Dunstable 1
Goal Scorer Jordan Ratcliffe

This morning's game saw us up aganist a tough Barnfield Colts team who had scored 21 goals in there first two games.

The match started with AFC having the advantage of the slope. From the first corner of the game AFC scored with a fine finish from Jordan Ratcliffe. AFC went looking for the second goal and went close from a shot from James Green. Barnfield Colts then started to play good football attacking down the flanks but AFC defence were strong in the tackle and denied Barnfield any clear cut chances.
The referee then gave Barnfield a penalty when one of there players handed the ball in the penalty area - "AFC players shouted hand ball and the referee gave a penalty". Barnfield's player struck the penalty well and scored.
Barnfield then took command of the game and after some sustained pressure took the lead with a close range finish from a corner.

Half time 2-1

Barnfield started the second half with the advantage of the slope and nearly scored straight from the kick off but Bradley Vine made a fine save. Barnfield continued to dominant the game and where denied more chances by some good defending especially from James Green (who was playing out of position), Luke Reddington, Connor Richardson and Kyle Burgess. Bradley Vine then made another fine save when Barnfield were through one on one with Bradley.
The midfied of Spencer Park, Harry Carr, Adam Gormley and Tom Silford played some good football at times but could not find the killer pass to the forwards Jordan Ratcliffe, Jake Butler, Aaron Maher and Liam Brien who were well marshalled by some good defending from Barnfied.
AFC put in one final effort at the end and Jordan Ratcliife went close to equalising.

Full Time 2-1

Team - Bradley, Luke B, Luke R, Connor, Kyle, Tom, Spencer, Harry, James, Jake, Jordan
Subs used Liam, Adam, Aaron

Barnfield where a better team on the day and deserved there win. Next week we are away to Bedford Town who are currently top of the league.

Sunday 14th October 2007

Bedford Town 2 AFC Dunstable 1
Goal Scorer Jake Butler

For our second away game we were up against the current league leaders Bedford Town

For the first 15 or so minutes the first half was even with both teams matching each other in all positions with neither team being able make any clear cut chances. Then on one of AFC counter attacks the ball found Jake Butler in the box and he finished well. Bedford then started to find a bit of space in midfield and their midfielder hit a long range effort which Bradley Vine pushed onto to the crossbar.
Then just before the half time whistle Bedford where awarded a free kick just outside the box. From the resulting free kick Bradley Vine made a fine save from a header from about 6 yards out.

Half time 0-1

Bedford came out for the second half and straight away took confidence from the last few minutes of the first half and started to pass the ball very well and were causing our defence some problems. After some substained pressure Bedford were awarded a penalty. Their player stepped up and his shot went high and wide of the goal. This pressure continued and shortly afterwards Bedford equalised from a header from inside the 6 yard box. AFC started to move the ball well with Tom Silford making some excellent runs down the left but we could not find that killer pass to our forwards. Then Bedford went ahead with a great throughball to their winger who rounded Bradley Vine and finished well.
AFC continued to pass the ball well and Harry Carr had a free kick well saved by the Bedford keeper and Spencer Park had a couple of shots from outside the box which were also well saved by their keeper.

Full time 2-1

Team - Bradley, James, Connor, Luke R, Kyle, Adam, Spencer, Harry, Jordan, Liam, Jake.
Subs used - Tom, Aaron - Injured Luke B

Both teams played good football and Bedford deserved there win. Next week (21st October 2007)we are at home to Dunstable Town A.

AFC Dunstable 2 Dunstable Town A 2
Goal scorers Harry Carr, Adam Gormley

This morning game saw us up aganist newly promoted Dunstable Town A. The match was moved to Brewers Hill Middle School.

The match started in bright sunshine with AFC gunning for there first league victory of the season. AFC started brightly moving the ball well but did not create any clear cut chances. Harry Carr then put AFC 1-0 from a 20 yard free kick which looped over Dunstable keeper. Harry Carr then went close again from a free kick but on this occasion he hit the post. AFC dominated the half but were let down by some poor finishing. Dunstable were a threat on the break with their big striker causing us a few problems with the ball over the top but AFC defended well and Dunstable efforts were mostly from outside the box.

Half time 1-0

Dunstable started the second half and from the kick off their player had a long range shot which Connor Richardson deflected onto his own post. This spurred Dunstable on and shortly afterwards a shot from about 25 yards went under Bradley Vine and Dunstable equalised. AFC started to pass the again well and for about 10 mins or so we started to get on top again. Some good build up play on the left hand side resulted in a cross to the right hand side and Adam Gormley finished well with a fine shot into the corner of the net. Liam Brien then should have made it 3-1 when through one on one with the keeper but shot straight at the keeper. Dunstable were always a threat with the long ball and shortly before the end a mix up at the heart of the AFC defence allowed Dunstable to have a shot which hit the post and rebounded to a Dunstable player who finished well. Both teams went looking for the winner but in the end the game ended in a draw.

Full Time 2-2.

Team Bradley, Luke B, Luke R, Connor, Kyle, Tom, Harry, Spencer, James, Jordan, Jake
Subs all used Liam, Adam and Aaron.

Overall AFC were the better team and deserved to take all 3 points but if you do not take your chances in this Division other teams will punish you and thats what Dunstable did. There is no game next weekend. Our next game is on the 4th November 2007 at home to Leighton United A in the second round of the County Cup.

Sunday 4th November 2007
County Cup 2nd round
AFC Dunstable 0 Leighton Utd A 1

This morning's match saw us up againist Leighton Utd A who like us were struggling at the bottom end of Division 1 so a tight game was expected.

The first chance of the game fell to Leighton United but Bradley Vine saved well from a shot from just inside the box. Jake Butler then had a 20 yard shot well saved by the Leighton Utd keeper. Then just before half time Leighton Utd went close to opening the scoring but their player headed over the bar from close range.

Half time 0-0

The second half got under way and like the first half the game seem to settle into a midfield battle with the ball rarely troubling both defences. Neither team looked like breaking the deadlock and then a very disputed referering decision gave Leighton Utd a penalty, from which their player converted well to put Leighton Utd 1 up. AFC tried their best to equalise and went close from a Harry Carr free kick, but it just was not AFC's day.

Full Time 0-1

Good luck to Leighton Utd for the rest of the competition.

Team, Bradley, James, Luke R, Connor, Kyle, Harry, Spencer, Adam, Tom, Jordan, Jake.
Subs all used Liam, Aaron and Luke B.

Next week (11th November 2007) it is back to league action. We are away to Bedford FC. Kick off 10:30 at Bedford Cricket Club.

Bedford FC 1 AFC Dunstable 2
Goal Scorers Jordan Ratcliffe, Adam Gormley

This morning saw us travel to Bedford to face 3rd place Bedford FC.

AFC started the match very well and shortly after the kick off Connor Richardson in his new position in central midfield hit a 30 yard shot that went just over the bar. AFC continued to pressure Bedford's midfield and defence with some good football which allowed Tom Silford and Aaron Maher space to put in some decent crosses that did not quite fall for Jordan Ratcliffe and Liam Brien. Bedford looked strong on the break but AFC defended well with Luke Reddington, Spencer Park, James Green and Kyle Burgess all contributing with some fine tackles. Bradley Vine in goal looked composed when called upon.
AFC continued to play some fine football and where rewarded when Jordan Ratcliffe headed home from five yards out after a fine cross from Harry Carr.

Half time 0-1

AFC continued to play good football at the start of the second half with Liam Brien linking up well with his midfield players. A fine pass from Harry Carr found Adam Gormley on the end of the box and he finished well to make it 2-0.
AFC continued to play good football looking for the 3rd goal with Jake Butler making some fine runs down the right flank. At the other end Bedford were causing us problems especially done the right flank and they came close to pulling a goal back but were denied by the crossbar.
Liam Brien had a couple of long range efforts that went wide. Then with about 10 minutes remaining Bedford pulled a goal back from a long throw into the box which deflected onto their striker and he finished from close range. Bedford continued to pile on the pressure but AFC held on and deserved their first league victory of the season.

AFC Dunstable 0 Warden Hill Tigers 4

This morning's game saw us up againist a very physical team in Warden Hill Tigers.

The first 10 or so minutes of the first half was very even with neither team getting the upper hand. Then Warden Hill Tigers from a long throw which was not cleared by the AFC Dunstable defence scored a scappy opening goal. They scored a second goal shortly afterwards from a header five yards after a good cross from the left. They added a third after Bradley Vine could not hold on to the ball after a fine strike from just outside the box and Warden Hill Tigers player tapped in from close range. At the other Tom Silford and Adam Gormley both found themselves in good positions but shot wide.

Half Time 0-3

The second half started and AFC Dunstable starting to play some good football. Connor Richardson went close from a shot from just outside the box, and Adam Gormley had an effort headed off the line.
Warden Hill Tigers looked a threat on the break but AFC defence held out with some excellent defending, then with AFC attacking for a consolation goal Warden Hill Tigers attacked on the break and their right winger finished well with a fine shot just inside the post.

Sunday 25th November 2007

AFC Dunstable 4 Leighton Utd A 1
Goal Scorers Tom Silford 2, OG, Luke Reddington

This morning we welcomed Leighton Utd A who recently beat us in the county cup, so AFC were looking for revenge.

AFC welcomed back Luke Bissett and Jake Butler and Josh Skelcey made his second appearance of the season. Kyle Burgess was unavailable due to injury so Connor Richardson moved to left back, Harry Carr was also unavailable so Jordan Ratcliffe and Spencer Park were in central midfield.
The game started and Leighton Utd scored on their first attack when their player slotted home from just inside the box.
AFC were stunned but soon found there passing game and looked a threat on both flanks with James Green (in his regular position) and Tom Silford putting in some good crosses that were well defended by Leighton Utd.
Josh Skelcey had a goal disallowed for off side after a fine cross from Connor Richardson.
AFC then equalised after a fine run by Tom Silford who rounded the keeper and finished well. Shortly afterwards Tom Silford added a second with a fine finish that curled into the net.
AFC continued to dominant the game, but shortly before half time AFC were down to 10 men after Adam Gormley retaliated to a bad tackle and was sent off.

Half time 2-1

10 man AFC started the second half and were definately up for the battle. AFC continued to dominant the game and it was no surprise after a fine run by James Green that AFC added a third from a og. James Green made some further excellent runs but was denied a well deserved goal by the Leighton Utd goalkeeper. Tom Silford and Jake Butler were linking up well in attack and Tom Silford went close to getting his hat trick. Spencer Park and Jordan Ratcliffe were winning the midfield battle and the defence of Connor Richardson, Luke Reddington, Josh Skelcey, Luke Bisset, Liam Brien and Aaron Maher defended there line very well and Leighton Utd's only shot on target in the second half was from 20 yards out.
Luke Reddington then added a fourth after a fun run and he slotted home from just inside the box.
A fine performance especially in the second half with only 10 men. The team worked really hard for each other and it was good to see Josh Skelcey back and he made some trademark tackles.

Full Time 4-1

Team Bradley, Connor, Luke R, Josh, Luke B, Tom, Spencer, Jordan, James, Adam, Jake. Subs used Liam, Aaron. Unavailable Harry and Kyle

Our next game is at home to Lea Sports Pirton on the 2nd December.

AFC Dunstable 2 Lea Sports Pirton 1
Goal Scorers - Jordan Ratcliffe and Liam Brien

This morning match saw us up aganist Lea Sports Pirton in extremely wet conditions.

Kyle Burgess and Luke Reddington were unavailable so Jordan Ratcliffe started at centre half and James Green moved into central midfield alongside Harry Carr who returned after missing last weeks game.
In appalling weather conditions both teams wanted to play football - Lea Sports played some neat football and but for Bradley's Vine good handling in wet conditions might have taken a early lead. AFC themselves were passing the ball well and Liam Brien had a couple chances when through on goal but their keeper made some good saves.
Then half way through the first half AFC were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Harry Carr put in a wonderful cross and Jordan Ratcliffe headed home from close range. Lea Sports hit the bar shortly afterwards.

Half time 1-0

The second half started and Lea Sports straight from the kick off put AFC's defence under extreme pressure. This continued for about 10 minutes and Lea Sports were denied a equaliser by a great save from Bradley Vine when he diverted a 20 yard shot just round the post. Lea Sports finally got their equaliser after AFC failed to clear and their player headed home from close range. This seemed to put Lea Sports on the front foot but were denied any more clear cut chances by some fine defending from Jordan Ratcliffe, Spencer Park, Connor Richardson, Luke Bisset and Jake Butler, Tom Silford and Aaron Maher who come back from attacking positions to help AFC defend. AFC continued to look good on the break with some fine through balls from Harry Carr to Adam Gormley whose pace was causing the Lea Sports defence problems. Liam Brien had a goal disallowed for off side and again was denied a goal by a good save from their goalkeeper. Then a mix up between their goalkeeper and defended left Liam Brien free and he finished well from a tight angle.
Lea Sports pressed for a equaliser but were denied any chances by some strong defending from AFC.
James Green playing out of his normal position in central midfield had an extremely good game alongside Harry Carr aganist a very good Lea Sports midfield.

Full time 2-1

Overall a good game played in a good atmosphere with both teams wanting to play football.

Team Bradley, Connor, Jordan, Spencer, Luke B, Tom, Harry, James, Aaron, Liam, Jake. Subs used Adam - not available Luke R, Kyle.

This morning game saw us up against Lea Sports Pirton whom we had played at home the previous Sunday.

The 1st half was played in treadful conditions with the rain pouring down. Both teams tried to play football on a very big pitch but both defences were on top and limited chances to long range efforts. Liam Brien had the only AFC shot at goal from about 25 yards.

Half Time 0-0

The second half again looked very even with both defences on top, James Green, Josh Skelcey, Luke Reddington and Connor Richardson looked rarely troubled. Then some good play on Lea Sports Pirton left resulted in a cross from the bye line which was slotted home from 6 yards out. AFC midfield of Harry Carr, Spencer Park, Jordan Ratcliffe, Jake Butler and Tom Silford tried to break down a strong midfield/defence but could not find the pass to the AFC strikers. Then Lea Sports Pirton went 2 - 0 up again from a cross from the left which was finished from a couple of yards out.

This morning we welcomed Langford from Division 4 in the 2nd round of the league cup.

Langford battled well and took the lead when their shot from just inside the box was deflected and Bradley Vine in goal got a hand to it but could not keep it out of the goal.
AFC were shocked and it took a while for the football to flow again. Harry Carr and Spencer Park were in a battle up againist a very physical team. Langford continued to battle hard and went close to going back in the lead but were denied by some good defending by Luke Reddington and Connor Richardson.
